La Pelle Tenace

Gaëlle Edon

The Gaëlle project

In 2015, Gaëlle Edon, hemiplegic following an accident, discovered rowing during the Handi Nautic day in the municipality of Sevrier. Unfortunately, there is no system that allows a person with an upper limb disability to row independently.

The coach of the Sevrier club, Sébastien, contacts Bruno who has a Handi training and works in this field. Thanks to him, a project group was set up in partnership with the Annecy-le-Vieux IUT (GMP section) and the Sevrier Rowing Club. Six students : Karl-Éric, Thibaut, Mathieu, Rudy, Pierrick and Florian take up the challenge to create a system allowing Gaëlle to row solo.

Thanks to their training, they drew up specifications, developed several prototypes, some of which did not work, and the mechanism was refined.
With Sébastien, they arrive at a functional prototype until finally arriving at the proposed mechanism, which can be further improved.

On 17 June 2016, Gaëlle was able to embark on a solo demonstration on a canoe, equipped with floats. The trial was a success, with the admiring eyes of those present!

The Gaëlle Project was awarded the Innovation Prize in the "Accessibility" category at the general meeting of the France Stations Nautiques label at the Paris Boat Show in 2016.

Today

As a result of the interest in the system, some members of the Gaelle Project have decided to continue this adventure.
In 2017, we created an association under the law of 1901 under the name of La Pelle Tenace in order to promote and develop the system which we have taken care to patent.

The design and improvement of the system, its promotion at events linked to the world of handisport and rowing, and its deployment at lower cost on the territory are the main actions carried out by the association's volunteers.

Profile of Gaëlle Edon
Gaëlle Edon
Rowing emiplegic athlete and initiator of the project

As a top-level sportswoman in shooting sports and a lover of the mountains, all my projects turn in this direction. And precisely by dint of going around in circles like a fish on Lake Annecy, wanting to row with one arm and two oars, the Pelle tenace was born.
Hemiplegic following an accident, I set myself many challenges:
-To enable people with upper limb deficiencies to row independently.
-To climb many summits.
-Participating in the Paralympic Games.

Profile of Pierrick BELARD
Pierrick BELARD
Designer

A mechanical engineer by training and a former student of the Gaelle project, I'm very interested in the technical development of the Kit so that it can be fitted on as many boats as possible. As a keen runner and mountain biker, I still find time to develop and think with the team about ways of developing and improving the Kit.

Profile of Rudy IANNUZZI
Rudy IANNUZZI
Designer

A former student on the Gaëlle project, now working in a design office and passionate about DIY of all kinds, I designed the first kit before moving on to the assembly and fitting of the second version of the Kits.
I alternate my time between business travel and sport, while keeping a place to follow the manufacture, assembly and shipping of your future kits.

Profile of Sébastien ANTOINE
Sébastien ANTOINE
Rowing coach

I've been a rowing coach for over 10 years. I offer my advice and experience on technique to users of the Kit Tenace, whether it's on how to row or on the equipment and how it works. I work closely with Rudy and Pierrick to provide answers to technical questions.
